From its inception art and creativity has been an integral part of the New Eden Community Garden. Beauty is transformational and gardeners have been encouraged to run with their aesthetic impulses in designing their gardens and creating garden totems and bird houses.
The Green Artists League (GAL) is a collective of environmental artists dedicating to raising environmental consciousness and moving people to commit to earth friendly behaviors. As resident “articulturists”, the Green Artists League gives New Eden members opportunities to collaborate on creative projects and to engage in an extended dialogue on the nature of sustainable community. The Green Artists League will be documenting our experiment in community through the New Eden Garden Blog. Other GAL New Eden projects include designing the lay out of the garden to create “neighborhoods” within the garden and then experimenting in relational aesthetics by asking gardeners to work together to measure each others garden plots. GAL is in the second year of painting their 60′ mural on ” Our Sustainable Future” in First Parish’s Holton Hall.
