If I have a compost pile at home which is just a pile of rotting veggies, etc. Do I need to let that sit before I turn in into the garden soil?

Rotting is not optimal. You do not want your decomposition to just go to mold and slime. My guess is that you do not have enough carbon/ brown materials. Browns include straw, hay, dried tree leaves, coffer grounds, shredded paper, Add the hay to sweeten your piles and regularly stir the pile. We now have a compost master on board that could give you even more good tips. Ask this same question on the garden forum that is a tab at the top of the site. You need to register separately for the forum but you will get a lot of more cool information from many more than just this little old web administrator.
